Offline activation was a feature of the legacy system, designed for computers that rarely or never connect to the internet. The process involved generating a unique hardware ID from your PC, taking it to an internet-connected machine, visiting a Ford portal, entering the ID and your license code, and then bringing a generated response file back to the offline PC. With the new cloud-based system, this process is obsolete, as you must log in online. However, once authenticated, the software may work for a period without a persistent connection.

As of late 2023/early 2024, this system has been phased out. Instead of entering a code, you log into the Ford software using your Motorcraft Service credentials. Your active subscription is tied directly to your account, not a single PC.
